Northwest Container Services (NWCS), a Waste Connections company, is looking for a safety conscious M&R Mechanic to join the team in NW Portland, Oregon.

NWCS is an intermodal train yard that specializes in storage, repair and train movement for 20-ft, 40-ft, 45-ft, 48-ft and 53-ft containers and chassis. The container yard handles both empty and loaded containers. At NWCS, we're striving to create a safe working culture and to make it a great place to work.

Schedule will be Monday - Friday

Shift will be 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM

Wage Range is $30.00 -$35.00/HR DOE

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Chassis Repair:

  • Perform required maintenance and repairs on Intermodal chassis/trailers to meet FHWA/FMCSA(Federal Highway Administration) standards.
  • Typical repairs include preventative maintenance, repairing chassis components, airlines, brake systems, suspensions, wheels, tires, and electrical systems, welding, painting, and fabricating.
  • May respond to service calls.

Container Repair:

  • Welding, painting, and grinding responsibilities.
  • Welding abilities to include MIG, TIG
  • Cutting abilities to include Plasma Cutter, Cutting Torch
  • Utilize hand grinder, drill, sanders, Sawzall, hand tools, hammers, sledge hammer, tape measure.
  • Driving a forklift.
  • Available to help mechanics in maintenance shop as required.
  • General cleaning responsibilities.
  • Equipment safety checks: air compressors, welders, ladders, extension cords, miscellaneous hand tools.
  • Maintain and track inventory of container parts and supplies.
  • Assemble, repair, and replace decals on containers.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and understand needed repairs and/or tasks.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.

Refrigeration Repair: (Not Required)

  • Diagnose, maintain, repair, rebuild, and/or replace electronic, electrical refrigeration, and mechanical parts as required.
  • Determine proper part numbers by consulting service and parts manuals.
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, customers, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Operate powered industrial equipment when necessary.
  • Understand safety always takes precedence over operating productivity.
  • Inspect reefer repair area for safety conditions.
  • Takes necessary measures to prevent injuries and property damage.
  • Complies with environmental regulations as it pertains to their area of responsibility and ensures ITSC is in compliance with pertinent environmental regulations.
  • Other assigned tasks

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum (1)-year of Chassis/Trailer maintenance experience REQUIRED.
  • Minimum (2)-years of maintenance experience PREFERRED.
  • Strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of your team and the community we serve.
  • Desire to learn new skills and achieve excellence.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, lift up to 75lbs. and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb, bend, and stoop to inspect chassis/trailers.
