About the position

Responsibilities

  • Patrol all NANA lands by boat, ATV, snow mobile and airplane, depending on the season.
  • Contact people found on NANA lands and verify permit and reasons for being there.
  • Ensure trespassers will be issued written notice of trespass if warranted.
  • Assist in the preparation of litigation, if warranted.
  • Coordinate assigned land program activities with other public/private landowners as well as public law enforcement agencies.
  • Spend all of the protection program season in the region patrolling.
  • Ensure all assigned activities comply with sound business practices and applicable regulations/requirements.
  • Follow procedures and requirements for any and all expanded protection program opportunities.
  • Represent NANA's Land Department with shareholders, the business community, and the public.
  • Demonstrate remarkable skills in handling assigned activities, teamwork, communications, operating efficiencies, decision making, and analyzing and solving problems.
  • Notify supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not being met.
  • Perform other duties that are pertinent to the team and program success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Preference for those who have completed formal training in trespass law enforcement and land management fundamentals.
  • Experience evidencing knowledge of state trespass regulations, NANA's land policies/practices, and federal, state, and local land management laws.
  • Knowledge of NANA and its region, and ANCSA and ANILCA provisions.
  • Ability to operate basic GPS equipment and programs.
  • Exemplary interpersonal communications skills.
  • Diplomatic skills to deal with people under potentially confrontational situations.
  • A valid State of Alaska Security Guard license upon hire.
  • A valid vessel license.

Nice-to-haves

  • NANA Shareholder preference.
  • Familiarity with boat navigation in the river and lake systems in the area.
  • Mechanical knowledge of ATVs, boats, snowmobiles, and related equipment.
