Senior BI Data Engineer id-6166
About the position
IAT Insurance Group is seeking a Senior BI Data Engineer to join our team, focusing on the design, build, deployment, and support of decision support data marts and their associated data integration capabilities. This position is crucial for enhancing IAT's ability to make data-driven decisions and will operate on a hybrid schedule from one of our offices located in Raleigh, NC, Kansas City, MO, or Cheshire, CT. The role requires in-office work from Monday to Wednesday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Thursdays and Fridays.
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in implementing decision support data marts, particularly within the Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance sector, utilizing Microsoft Technologies. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Business Intelligence Information Delivery & Analytics team to develop user interface assets that align with the decision-making needs of various business and functional support areas across IAT.
You will be responsible for gaining a comprehensive understanding of the current data environment and mapping out the transition to a future state strategic architecture. Your expertise will be essential in the development, testing, and deployment of decision support data marts using Python and/or SQL code. You will also create and maintain data loads, leveraging your strong knowledge of ETL processes and SQL stored procedures, and will be expected to troubleshoot data-related issues effectively. As a Senior BI Data Engineer, you will partner with IT Data Management and Modeling Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data. You will serve as an escalation point for problem-solving and issue resolution, contributing to the overall success of our data initiatives. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, making this a dynamic and engaging role within our organization.

Responsibilities
- Develop a deep understanding of the current state data environment and the transition path to future state strategic architecture.
- Responsible for development, testing, and deployment of decision support data marts using Python and/or SQL code.
- Create and maintain data loads via a strong knowledge of ETL and SQL stored procedures.
- Ability to step through ETL code to solve for data-related issues.
- Partner closely with IT Data Management, Information Delivery, and Modeling SMEs to govern and ensure overall accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data.
- Serve as an escalation point for problem-solving and issue resolution.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 5 or more years of progressive experience in planning and executing data integration projects on SQL Server / Microsoft Fabric architecture.
- Experience in development, testing, and deployment of data marts in a cloud-based architecture using SQL/Python code.
- Core understanding of business intelligence/data warehousing technologies, methodologies, and techniques with proven experience delivering data-driven BI solutions.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, capable of presenting complex issues in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner to business and technical professionals.
- Demonstrated initiative, self-starter, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to meeting deadlines.
