About the position

The Remote Triage Registered Nurse at Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) plays a crucial role in providing individualized care and clinical guidance to oncology patients, their families, and caregivers. This position requires a professional registered nurse with specialized oncology knowledge to assist patients with their ongoing healthcare needs. The Triage Nurse will be responsible for triaging patient calls related to treatment, surgery, and appointment information, ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate care. In this role, the nurse will monitor and manage patient symptoms, particularly for high-risk and complex cases, with the aim of minimizing emergency department visits and inpatient readmissions. The Triage Nurse will assess barriers to care and address the needs of patients, caregivers, and families to achieve optimal outcomes. Providing ongoing education, resources, and referrals to both internal and external resources is a key responsibility, as is assisting physicians and advanced practice providers with patient interactions to resolve clinical issues. The Triage Nurse will also be responsible for completing clinical documentation, maintaining professional boundaries, and facilitating communication among the multidisciplinary cancer care team to prevent fragmented care. This position requires a strong commitment to patient-centered care and adherence to the regulations set forth by the Florida State Board of Nursing. Overall, the Triage Nurse will work as an integral part of the healthcare team, ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care throughout their treatment journey.

Responsibilities

  • Triage oncology patient calls regarding treatment, surgery, and appointment information.
  • Monitor and provide patient symptom management.
  • Manage high risk, complex patient care to minimize emergency department and inpatient readmission.
  • Assess barriers to care to address patient, caregiver, or family needs for optimal outcomes.

  • Complete requested clinical documentation as needed.
  • Establish and maintain professional role boundaries with patients, caregivers, and the multidisciplinary care team.
  • Facilitate communication among members of the multidisciplinary cancer care team to prevent fragmented or delayed care.
  • Review, evaluate, and report diagnostic tests to assess patient's condition.
  • Provide patient education and clinical direction following chemotherapy, radiation, and infusion treatments and post-surgery.
  • Work as an integral team player and adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the Florida State Board of Nursing.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse multistate or Florida single state licensure required.
  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) preferred.
  • Three (3) years or more of experience as an RN.
  • Two (2) years or more of oncology experience required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and reprioritize quickly.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships both internally and externally.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong telephonic assessment and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and with a virtual team in a remote work environment.
  • Strong oncology side effect/triage management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Possess high level critical-thinking skills.
