The charter of the Amazon Shopping Team is to improve shopping on Amazon using the conversational capabilities of large language models. We are working on an AI-first initiative to further improve the way we do search using large-scale foundation models. These foundation models are also used in downstream applications by various partner teams in Amazon Stores. Our goal is to build large language models (LLMs), which can empower conversational applications and facilitate online shopping. Key job responsibilities
As a Distinguished Scientist, you will act as Generative AI expert across the entirety of Amazon.
With your expertise in both theory and practice of Generative AI you will be a strategic advisor to various S-teams and provide practical, clinical advice to business owners and communicate recommendations to leadership and, as appropriate, customers and external stakeholders.
You will see around corners and identify business problems that may impact customers a few years out.
You will delve into problems that are unique and unsolved to propose and deliver solutions that build upon on decades of published scientific research and business judgment.
With your reputation in advancing current science your impact will be beyond your immediate research circles to influence research in adjacent disciplines and beyond.
Your research will spark new lines of inquiry and will be leveraged by a broad array of technologists.
Published work exemplifies resounding business impact at scale and represents industry-first inventions for customers.
Your experience in identifying and delivering mechanisms will improve scientific knowledge integration into product.
You will drive major new science heavy product launches with org-wide scope and impact. **Qualifications:** PhD degree in computer science, engineering, or mathematics
* 20+ years of experience in the field
* A track record of world-class publication in related disciplines
* Demonstrated expertise in both theory and practice of disciplines **Preferred Qualifications:** Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions.
* Exceptional ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences, including large technical audiences, senior management, and customers.
* Track record of developing intellectual property.
* Demonstrated history of influencing standards bodies.
* Participation on academic program committees and open-source programs.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position starts at $350,000/yr. Pay is based on a number of factors, including market location, and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
