Ordinary Seaman Apply Now Description/Job Summary The Ordinary Seaman is responsible to the Captain at all times; however, reports to the Officer in Charge of the Navigation when on duty. Local candidates preferred. Responsibilities/Duties Lookout.Handles lines to and from the vessel during operations at the direction of the Officer in Charge of the Navigation Watch; secures vessel to dock.Directs vehicles on and off the vessel.Assist the Mate and AB in the inspection of lifesaving, firefighting, and all other safety equipment to ensure all are in working order. Assists passengers who require assistance on and off the vessel.Participates in all training, drills and exercises.Performs assigned firefighting, man overboard and abandon ship duties as assigned on the Station Bill.Performs painting, cleaning and maintenance duties as assigned by the Captain or Mate; general upkeep of the vessel.Project a positive company image to customers, other mariners, terminal personnel and the public.Other duties as may be assigned by the Mate or Captain. Preferred Experience Deck experience on a tug, fishing or other type vessel. Required Qualifications Current U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential with Ordinary Seaman (OS) rating.Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).High school diploma or equivalent.Pass pre-employment drug test.Pass pre-employment physical.Entry level position; however, prior deck experience aboard a commercial or non-commercial vessel is a plus..
