About the position
The Warehouse Material Handler plays a crucial role in the logistics and supply chain operations at Covenant Transport Services. This position involves performing various tasks associated with all shipping and receiving functions within the warehouse. The primary responsibility of the Material Handler is to move goods efficiently from one point to another, ensuring that products are loaded onto trucks, unloaded from trucks, and supplied to production areas as needed. Additionally, the Material Handler is responsible for removing finished goods to designated warehouse storage areas, maintaining an organized and efficient workflow. In this role, the Material Handler will be expected to operate forklift equipment safely and effectively, as well as utilize RF devices for inventory management. Adherence to quality compliance standards and housekeeping practices is essential to ensure a safe and productive work environment. The Material Handler will also be involved in cross-training on various warehouse job functions, which may include manual handling of materials that do not require forklift operation, depending on customer needs and location. The position requires a proactive approach to teamwork and communication, as the Material Handler will interact with associates at all levels of the organization. The ability to work independently and achieve company goals is highly valued. The fast-paced nature of the warehouse environment demands excellent teamwork skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions as directed by supervisors. Responsibilities
- Perform tasks associated with moving goods from point to point.
- Load and unload trucks as required.
- Supply production areas with products or remove finished goods to warehouse storage areas.
- Inspect and operate forklift equipment safely.
- Operate an RF device for inventory management.
- Ensure on-time shipping and receiving of goods.
- Maintain inventory control and quality compliance standards.
- Adhere to housekeeping standards in the warehouse.
- Cross-train on all warehouse job functions as needed.
- Perform manual handling of materials when required.
Requirements
- Must have prior forklift experience.
- Requires good eyesight and hearing for telephone and computer use.
- Requires color-sight for color-coded items.
- Personable with the ability to communicate with associates at all levels of the organization.
- Ambitious and self-motivated, able to work without supervision.
- Interested in achieving company goals and objectives.
- Excellent teamwork skills and ability to read labels and numbers.
- Ability to operate in a high-speed and fast-paced environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must have completed forklift operator training provided by the industry, with annual updates and retraining.
- Experience in forklift operations is mandatory.
- Leadership experience is a plus.
- WMS system experience is a plus.
